IVF has made a business of violating the rights of children. It circumvents, rather than heals, infertility.

Infertility is heartbreaking for married couples who desperately want to welcome a baby into their family. These couples deserve compassion, but never at the cost of children’s right to life and right to their mother and father.

President Trump’s executive order aims to make IVF more affordable and accessible. But IVF, as it is currently practiced, rampantly victimizes children.

  • Only around 2.3% of lab-created babies will be born alive.
  • The vast majority will be genetically screened, sex-selected, and graded out of existence.
  • “Surplus” embryos are discarded as medical waste, “donated” (that is, destroyed) to research, or forgotten in freezers.
  • Many of the lucky few who survive this eugenic gauntlet will lose their right to be known and loved by their mother and/or father via third-party “donor conception.” This subjects them to identity struggles, less stable households, mother- or father-hunger, and if raised by an unrelated adult, increased rates of abuse and neglect.

As it is currently practiced in the U.S., IVF is incompatible with a pro-life and pro-child ethic.

Children are not products to be ordered, graded, stored, or discarded. A child’s dignity and right to life should never be determined by cost, convenience, or adult desire. A truly pro-family approach doesn’t funnel money into an industry that treats children as commodities. It invests in ethical, effective treatments that heal bodies and respect the rights and humanity of every person.

The answer isn’t a more efficient or cost-effective embryo-manufacturing industry. The answer is better healthcare.

Women deserve doctors who treat their bodies as whole, interconnected systems—not as broken machines that need to be circumvented with synthetic hormones and lab-created embryos. Real medicine should work to identify and heal the underlying causes of infertility. Natural alternatives like NaProTechnology do exactly that—without creating embryos who are treated as “excess” or financing an industry that victimizes children.

While we appreciate President Trump’s desire to support families, the answer is not found in supporting this profit-centric, rights-violating industry. It is found in better healthcare, better research, and an unwavering commitment to protecting the smallest and most vulnerable humans among us.

Them Before Us

Founded in 2018 by Katy Faust, Them Before Us is a global movement defending children’s right to their mother and father. We work to put children before adults in every conversation about marriage and family—in culture and the courtroom, in personal decisions and public policy. Through advocacy, education, and policy work, we challenge laws and cultural trends that prioritize adult desires over children’s needs. By equipping lawmakers, leaders, and families with a pro-child framework, we ensure that the rights and well-being of children remain the focus.
