“American Katy Faust was raised by her lesbian mother and her partner and she now runs a blog called asktheBigot, which is fiercely opposed to gay marriage.” — This is Katy back before it #ThemBeforeUs all began.

While Katy does not call herself a “child of lesbian parents”, one can see some of the questioning here aligns with culture-at-large’s attempt to pit the “child” who wants to speak out about his or her experiences against the desires of the parents in the situation. When speaking about her mother and her mother’s partner, Katy makes it abundantly clear that she loves her mother and loves her mother’s partner and acknowledges both had incredible ability to “mother”. What neither woman could offer Katy was a father. Katy has shared over many interviews and in her book how thankful she was that her parents made sure she had time with both her mother and father, understanding that the ideal for children is loving relationship with both the mother and father that produced them.

This interview currently stands at 1.9 million views and had so much discussion comments were eventually turned off.
